The later part
of summer,
Katrilli had two
“goodbye”
gatherings: We
said good-bye to
the delightful
and super
talented members
of Kardemimmit.
Kardemmimit is
composed of four
young Finnish
women who sing
and play modern
& traditional
tunes on the
kantele. The
party in their
honor was held
at Katrilli
members Roy and
Kathleen
Luquette’s
home. Along
with many tunes
from Kardemmimit,
Folk Voice
ensemble also
added their
talents to a
night of music
and dancing.
When the
musicians and
dancers needed a
break, Chris
Luquette and
friends played
lively blue
grass music.
Along with
Katrilli members
and Kardemmimit,
we also had two
guests from
Germany.
They probably
had no idea that
when they left
Germany to learn
about American
customs, that
they would also
learn about
Finnish
traditions and
music.
Our second “
good-by”
gathering was
for Tommi
Keisala, one of
our dancers.
His party, with
more food and
music, was held
at Patti and
Bob Larson’s
home. Tommi
has been dancing
with various
Finnish
Folkdance
ensembles since
he was a
youngster. His
styling and
knowledge of
Finnish
folkdancing will
be very much
missed. Tommi
was working for
Noikia here in
Seattle, and is
now relocated
back in
Helsinki. Not
only did he ship
to
Finland
his car but also
two motorcycles,
kayaks and many
other items.
His shipping
bill was
probably rather
impressive.
Fortunately, we
have some
“hellos” too.
Hello to our two
newest members,
Karen Shaw and
Larry Holmes.
Both Karen and
Larry have many
years of dance
experience.
Karen is the
president of the
Seattle Folklore
Society
and on the
executive board
for Folklife.
Larry is a great
lead and always
has a smile.
Welcome!!
Hello to a new
season with new
dances while we
continue to
brush-up on our
last season’s
program. Our
fall season
promises to be
busy but
enjoyable and
rewarding as we
participate in
various
festivals and
functions:
Scandinavian
Days/Octoberfest
in Puyallup,
Cultural
Crossroads
Festival in
Bellevue,
Yulefest
at the
Nordic Heritage
Museum,
Winterfest at
the
Seattle Center,
and a
performance for
a local nursing
home. Of
course, we will
be at the annual
Finnish Bazaar
with our
delicious
pancakes and
homemade Finnish
goodies.
Say hello to new
experiences,
friends,
exercise and
lots of laughter
by adding
Finnish
folkdancing to
your schedule.
Katrilli
welcomes you
with or without
a partner, with
dancing
experience or
with
two left feet.
